My daughter is getting married.  Here is what happened when she told me-

Daughter:  I’m getting married!

Mom:  That’s so awesome! Now what do we do?

Daughter:  I don’t know.

Mom:  Me neither.  How about elope?

Daughter: No, I  don’t think so.

Mom:  Oh my god, you mean I have to dress up?  What will your Father wear?  I don’t know how to put together a wedding!  Can we have chocolate cake?  Do I have to wear high heels?  I’m not wearing makeup!  Can we have a candy bar?  Wouldn’t if be fun if we all dressed like circus performers!  Oh god, were am I going to get a circus performer type outfit?

 Daughter:  No Mom, no circus outfits.  Could you just design our invitations?

Mom:  Yes. . . Yes I can.

   I put, “as they join fin and paw in marriage”in the announcement as a joke, but my daughter and her fiance both liked it, so it sayed.

He’s been wanting to get back to his roots so when he heard about this place called Camp Whosawolf he got very excited.   Basically, you get matched up with a wolf pack and for one week you eat, drink and sleep as a wolf.

Here’s My Little Timber Wolf aboard his bus headed for Montana to meet his foster pack.

Here he is meeting his foster pack for the first time and greeting them as a wolf.

Notice his stern wolfish expression. He’s feeling pretty dangerous.

He’s always loved the snow. Here he’s keeping up with one of his wolf brothers.

Bringing down a caribou has been a life long dream for my little guy.  He finally got his wish!

My pup was never much of a howler, but on his last day he was feeling very wolfish and he was able to muster a pretty good Ha-ruuu!

When he  got home his was tired, his throat hurt and his farts smelled really weird.  But it was good to have him home.

What to do, what to do, what to do?  Hum…  I know, acorns with faces!   I just wanted to do something that I, at least, have not seen before.  Well, maybe in I’ve seen it in some form of artwork but not in embroidery pattern.

Oh, and how do you like the new logo.  Kind of pokes you in the eye doesn’t it!

One of my favorite steps in children’s book illustration is charactor design.

First I collected realistic images of weasels. 

 Then I collected cartooned images of weasels. 

I study both to get what I need.

See the weasel circled above?  I really like him but he is not too child friendly. I will save him for my Adult weasel book.

This weasel is suppose to be young.  And you know what that means,  Big Head Time!

Okay, getting close.  The first one looks like an alien, but the second one Pure Magic!

Oh Yah,  almost there.

Adorable and cranky!  Success!

FACT: I took me about 150 sheets of paper to get to the final drawing.  Front and back.

TIP:  Don’t hold back.  Draw EVERY idea that comes into your head.  It doesn’t matter if they’re good or not.  You learn something with each drawing.

It’s September and you know that means,

It’s time to polish your dorsal fins, shake out your tail flukes and send out those party invitations because it’s almost Blow Hole Day!
