For the Love of Deer by Andrea Zuill
Quite a while ago I said that I would have another competiton. I seem to recall it had something to do with the song Bird House in Your Soul, by They Might Be Giants.
Well, I totally flaked. I’d like to say that the reason I didn’t carry out the competition was because I was helping orphans or something, but I was just lazy. So, I started thinking about a competition again but I decided to change the theme. I thought I would massage my ego a bit and make this competition based on any of my free patterns. I want to see how you can bring them to life and make them your own. (Please use a pattern that hasn’t already been posted on Flickr by you)
Here are the catagories:
Hand Embroidery :
All work should be done by hand and using only the technique of embroidery.
Hand stitched fabric / fiber and mix media:
Quilting, Applique, Embroidery, Punchwork, etc. As long as it is made with fabric or fibers and is handmade. NO sewing Machines.
(buttons, beading and charms are okay to use)
Machine Stitching and Quilting:
As long as it is made with fabric or fibers. You can use fusible materials, sewing machines, Long Arms and so on.
(buttons, beading and charms are okay to use)
Non Traditional Materials:
Must have some fabric but can include other materials (ie, metal, feathers, wire, plastic, and so on…) . Stitching, quilting and embroidery can be machine or hand stitched.
I will be the judge. Here is what I will be looking for: Like I said before, I want to see how you make my patterns your own.
Prizes? Of course there are prizes!
I will try to post all entries on my blog, but the winners will be acknowledged as being the winners. And, each winner will win $40.00 worth of patterns from my store. Finally, each winner gets to choose one of my $20.00 or $18.00 prints from one of my two Etsy stores.
You don’t need to sign up. The entries will need to be in by Sept. 30, 2010. Just a little over a month. Just one entry per person. One catagory per person. When a piece is ready just post it this group, Stitched by Hand. Follow the directions below -
After loading your image, title the piece with the word COMPETITION , then the actual title.
SAMPLE: COMPETITION, Andrea is Awesome
Next, in the description area include which category your piece should be placed, which pattern and why you choose it, and tell us about the construction.
I will annouce the winners on October 2nd, 2010. If you remember the last time, there weren’t that many entries so the chance of winning is fairly high. Yet I know by saying this it might encourage more people to enter. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
For my free embroidery patterns go to my blog, zuill.us/andreablog/ , and over to the right and kind of in the middle you will find Categories. Under Categories you will find Free Patterns. Click on Free Patterns.
