Before I begin, I must warn you that this blog is NOT for MEN or BOYS. Also, if you have issues with Aunt Flo, The Gift, The Monthly Visitor or That Stupid Thing That Happens to Me Every Month, please do not read this post.
Tired of blood stained undies? Not excited by elaborate and mystical stain removal methods? Well, I have a great tip for you. ONLY BUY BLACK UNDIES.
My current bunch of undies are about 4 months old. In this time I’ve had four messy monthly visits. My undies look as unstained as the day I bought them.
ps – Just in case you’re wondering, I wash my undies frequently and in very hot water. (I know hot water sets blood but my undies are black so it just doesn’t matter.)
ps-ps- When writing this blog I didn’t know which word to use – underwear, panties, unmentionables or undies. I choose undies because it feels the most friendly.

I do this too! I bought a package set of super comfortable black undies from Target and they are reserved for my ‘I’m a Lady Weeks’. I was so tired of ruining cute underwear or worrying about stains making me look like I don’t know how to wash clothes. I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one who had this problem!
yeah black undies are the best for that time of month…
That is soooo cheating, I love it! Rather like red hankies called “lipstick hankies”. If you can’t beat them, camoflauge them!
what an interesting blog post – learn something new everyday and not just about quilting!
I’ll have to invest in a weeks worth of black undies… as when my step mom visits us or when we visit them – she ends up washing our laundry and I’m always so embarrassed for her to see any of my stains.
Not anymore – at least not after I go buy some blackies
Thanks for sharing this tip!

Just a few nights ago, I read a tip on the One Green Generation blog about using hydrogen peroxide to remove menstrual stains from undies — just pour it straight on the areas containing blood, let it soak for several hours, then wash as usual. She said it works on white fabrics and color fabrics.
I know the stains aren’t an issue for black undies, but since black shows through lighter-colored clothing and there are times when lighter-colored undies might be needed, it’s nice to have an option for removing stains.
When referring to my period with my husband I say I have a a visit from cousin vinnie….but any and all mention of such topics is fair game because this is as natural as breathing. I’m raising two boys and I swore I would tell them all about life just as real as I can to make it like science so they are not scared or biased. When we go to the Dr.’s office I let them watch when I get my blood drawn or theirs so they can see how cool science works. So far…I’m in the clear. When certain things pop up….I tell them it is cool body science.
Smiles,
Kelly
love it – so true
and who was it said socks had to white?
I love that you posted about periods! I do the black underwear trick as well and it makes my life so much easier. Easier to shop easier to wash…
I used to refer to all underwear as “panties” which my husband found demeaning, (an entirely separate topic!), so I call his “manties.”
Great post, made me laugh. We call is Shark Week around my house and I am a big fan of the black underpants around then.
(Why shark week? its the boodiest week on TV) thanks animal planet!
Thanks for making me lol
how great to hear that i’m not alone in thinking about the pantie/monthly visitor problem. I mostly have dark underwear, and the few white ones that i have, are never used when it’s that time at hte month.
