Nobody panic, I’m back!

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

I went out of town this last weekend.  All of my paintings where shipped off to my Texas gallery so it was time to play.  I met up with my Daughter and we headed to San Francisco or SF as the locals call it. We made it straight to Castro.

It was pouring rain.  But we braved it and actually found a parking spot.  We love window shopping in Castro because there are a lot of great shops there.  You can have great fun just going window to window with only the occasional jolt when your eyes unexpectedly hit the window of a porn shop.

This photo is looking down a big hill we had to climb to find a craft store that our GPS system said existed.  It doen’t existed.  It may have once, but not now.

Be Mine…

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

No, it’s not Valentine’s Day yet, these are some of the paintings that I have just shipped to my gallery in Texas.  I’m having a Valentine show called Be Mine… at Galleri Urbane in Marfa, TX.

Where or what is a Marfa, Tx?  Click here for a past blog I wrote about Marfa : http://zuill.us/andreablog/2008/01/15/upcoming-show-in-marfa-tx-but-wait-what-and-where-is-marfa/

Just for fun, if you check out the movies No Country for Old Men and There Will be Blood you’ll get a idea of what the Marfa landscape looks like.  Also, at the end of No Country for Old Men, in the credits, the directors thanked Ree and Jason Willaford.  These are my gallery people.  This is as close to fame as I get.  I will proceed to milk it.

Love poked me in the eye.

Actually, This one is called Heart Shaped Eye Patch.  I can have title issues some times.

Be Mine…., Opening Feb. 12th 2010

A sample and starting new quilt.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Okay, I know you’re bored with all my posts regarding new prints.  I have had little time to blog because I am getting ready to ship artwork for my February show at Galleri Urbane in Marfa, Texas.

The quilt above is only about 12″x8″.  I played around using the Turn Needle technique.  It’s a fun little quilt without finished edges.

See the background foundation fabric?  My Joann’s has just  gotten in a bunch of cotton checked or plaid fabric.  It’s kind of hard to embroider because it’s a much more open weave than I’m used to.  I found my floss was not flowing well and knotting up.  I don’t know what this fabric is called but like I said, it ’s weave is more open than regular quilter’s cotton And this fabric also is soft to the touch and seems aged.

I’m on a roll with my prints.  I guess finishing 2 quilts during the month of December kind of left me wanting to change gears and design new prints.   I have a new Queen of Hearts, a Tattooed Rabbit,  and Conjoined Rabbit Twins that I still haven’t presented to the public.

Hair Issues or Rapunzel’s Problem

Friday, January 8th, 2010

This is the second time I have created a Rapunzel image.  The first was a oil painting and this time it’s a print.  I am always less concerned with the whole tower business than I am at having tons of long hair.

My own hair is very thick and at one time I grew it down almost to my waist.  My hair was so heavy and took a long time to dry.  Using a blow dryer it took about a hour to dry.  Left to air dry it would take all day and sometimes it would never dry.  I’m surprised I didn’t have a fungal problem on the back of my head.

Just for fun, you can look up Rapunzel syndrom.  It’s so fun!

This print can be found at my Etsy store:  http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=38101049

Buns Galore, Burlesque Queen

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Buns Galore.  I would like to take credit for naming this print, but the credit has to go to my Husband.  I was going for a name like Fuzzy Buns, which while interesting it doesn’t convey sexuality.  My Daughter and I regularly play a game of making up burlesque names by ending descriptive words with the word galore.  I don’t know why it didn’t come to me. But, one day while taking a lovely drive, my Husband shouts out, “Buns Galore!”. Beside scaring the ba-jesus out of me,  I realized that he was right.  So, here she is, burlesque queen, Buns Galore.
