the fact that you admit you 'don't know what you're doing' makes me want to read what you have to say! so, remember that....

and, start in the middle. start wherever it's juicy.

statements, intros, organizing principles, last, last, last.

just ideas, and not even original ones -- take 'em or leave 'em.

Wow! That emboidery looks so fantastic - it makes it a whole different thing.

I like the idea of starting with old blog posts. Or think of one person you know and write it TO them. And it's a first draft, it's supposed to suck! Just get it out there and then you have something to work with - you can embroider over the top!

Andrea, I know I hate to write artist statements. I think, for me, it is partly because I believe that the artist statement will be subject to an entirely different level of criticism. Perhaps it is something like that about writing a book. You can write, your blog is always fun to read. And your regular readers are obviously excited about owning your book sight unseen.

Could you perhaps start with some of your archived posts? Another thing that has helped me is to write with a friend. Not necessarily the whole book...but just enough to get started. Choose your silliest friend, it will be more relaxed.

Have you ever read the book "Bird by Bird"? Anne Lamott has excellent advice for beginning writers. My favorite is that "everyone's rough draft is awful". So if you feel like what you have started writing is dry and boring you must be on the right track!
