” Is there air? You don’t know!” Can you guess where this quote is from?
This is an image of the Beartooth Hwy in Montana. The Chief Joseph Scenic Byway connects with the Beartooth. It is considered one of the most beautiful roadways in America. We traveled this road around July 9.
The highest point on this road is the Beartooth pass at 10,947 ft (3,337 m). It can snow at anytime of the year here. I didn’t want to hike there since the air is so thin. I have a hard enough time breathing at 9,000 ft. Notice the lack of trees. There isn’t enought air for them either.
I believe that the snow that you see in the photo’s never fully melts. Much of it is Watermelon Snow. Watermelon Snow is a red coloration caused by cold-tolerant algae and cyanobacteria. It can live in both ice and snow.

Breathtaking views! Absolutely beautiful! Did you go to Yellowstone to get those pictures? We are leaving soon for Yellowstone but staying on the West side of Yellowstone. I’ve never heard of this highway before, but WOW it’s beautiful!
The Beartooth highway is one of the most breathtaking drivable views in Montana. Nice photos, hope to visit in a few weeks.
Lovely. Reminds me of Colorado. I loved driving around and looking from every remote road we could find, but as soon as I got out of the car, my anemia would render me utterly useless and embarrassing.
