  The Flckr group Stitched by Hand is in the middle of another ATC card swap.  The theme this time is nautical. 

The pattern I used for the embroidery is one I designed a long time ago and had posted for free on Craftser.  I based it on Sailor Jerry tattoos.  The card itself measures only 2.5″ x 3.5″, not counting the little fabric border.  This piece is actually a very small quilt.  The batting is a piece of blue felt.  The back is covered by the white fabric that creates the border.

I will add more to this in a few days……

  This weekend I went to my first Quilt show.  It was a eye opener for many reasons.  First, there was very little in the way of hand quilting.  Every other booth had those large quilting machines.  Now, I don’t have anything against the machines, but I would like to see at least a little tribute to hand work.  Second, It was wierd to be in a sea of women (age 35 and up), all wearing sensible shoes, and no makeup.  Third, the majority of booths had quilt kits. Very little had to do with quilts as self expression.  Still, once again there is nothing wrong with kits.  I just wanted to bond with some fellow quilt artist.

To be fair, there was an exhibition of quilts and pretty much all where artist designed.  They where all beautiful designed.  I took photo’s of some of these quilts, but the photo’s turned out horrible.  Maybe on Flickr someone else took photo’s that turn out better that mine.

  I have a new quilt going on!  It’s a bit different.  I’m using a lot of black.  I love the background fabric that I found in a quilting store in Utah.  This fabric has the aged pinks, teals, cranberry and aqua.

  The single black rabbit started out as a rabbit shaped blob.  I thought that that is all I wanted.  I should have know better.  I can’t resist embroidering the heck out of something.  I outlined the rabbit in a medium blue.  Then I used a darker purpley blue and a sage green to stitch inside the rabbit.

  For years I owned and operated a Sign/Design company.  I don’t do much in the way of signs anymore, but I though I would dust off the old equipment and do some decals. 

This sweet gnome is 10″ x 4.4″.  It comes in white, black, red, dark blue, green, yellow, pink and orange.  I can do other colors too, just let me know what you would like.  But remember,  white is the very best on car windows and dark colors.

Rabbits are on my list of cute animals that are probably evil.  They’re just way too quiet.  I don’t trust those teeth.  Their fur is soft, but it just covers those cute feet that have sharp nails.   A bunnies eyes are dark, soul sucking orbs. 

I could be wrong.

   Usually, people who know me can tell when I have been painting.  I wear sloppy old clothes, which are paint stained.  9 times out of 10 my hair will be unwashed and on a really bad day I will not shower.  When I paint all my thought and being goes into the piece I’m working on.  I’m not the best house keeper, but my home becomes a disaster when the oil paints come out. 

       At risk to my personal hygiene and my home being condemned I have finished 2 new oil paintings.  Both are 36″ x 36″, oil on canvas.  The bird piece is called Bunting and the deer piece is called Sacred Deer.
